NDIS and ActivTec Solutions: All You Need to Know

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a relatively new support system implemented by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA). The purpose of the NDIS is to assist in enhancing the lives of the thousands of Australians with a significant or permanent disability, their families and their carers. It connects these people in need to thousands of product and service providers and assists in funding these products and services. The NDIS provides tailored opportunities for those affected by disability to improve outcomes in employment, mobility, functionality and general quality of life.

The specific purpose of the NDIS is to assist those affected by significant or permanent disability achieve their goals. Once goals are determined, a plan is established to source and fund the products and services required to achieve those goals. These plans can be self-managed, managed by the NDIA or by third party plan management providers. These products and services are to contribute to these particular goals or outcomes. For instance, funding can be applied to:

  • Day-to-day personal assistance with activities that will increase social and professional participation, such as transport and carers.
  • Therapy and training to assist in rehabilitation and general day-to-day function.
  • Equipment, household modifications and maintenance that allows people to carry out daily tasks without assistance and increase mobility and independence.

Despite backlash and differing opinions on the implementation of the NDIS, it is clear that the NDIS will be a vital scheme for many years to come.
